Bathroom Re-Do

I am joining the Met Monday over at Between Naps on the Porch.

I have done some transforming to our master bath. It's not done yet, by any means, but atleast I can stand it now! When we moved in it definitely had a real 90's Southwest vibe! Check out the wallpaper:

I will say they got some nice quality fixtures. They may be mauve but atleast they are Kohler! These babies are solid! Not a chip or hardly a sign of wear and tear on them!

I wish I had the funds to completely rehab this bathroom, but that's just not in the cards right now. So I started with what I could do something about - the wallpaper! You wouldn't think it would be a big deal to remove one wall of paper and a border in a small bathroom...but it really was! I am more of an instant gratification kind of person and I don't like long processes! The spraying and the scraping and the cleaning up all the little pieces...yuck! I did it over 2 weekends, so the bathroom was a mess for a while! Thankfully we have two! I chose a paint color that reminds me of sand, wet sand that is! I am going for a beachy theme in my bedroom.

I also replaced the towel bar and bought new, really nice knobs for the cabinets. I kind of splurged on the knobs, but the way I look at it - they belong to the house and I am always thinking of re-sale. I want the changes we make to the house itself to be something that will add value. Which brings me to the cabinets...

I am trying to decide what I want to do with the cabinets. I like this new distressing paint kit I saw over at A Soft Place to Land. The doors have a more contemporary detail on them and I am just not sure how it would look. And the big question is - what color? Should I go with an off-white distressed look or maybe a black stain?

More later on where I got my beachy accessories...

  1. It already looks 1000 times better with the new paint! I'm sure the wallpaper used to be, "lovely."

  2. Your bathroom renovation looks great. The sinks really aren't that bad. My in-laws have a country blue sink, toilet, and tub...and that's ugly! Actually, they've recently replaced the sink and toilet, but the tub's a little more difficult to change out. I love the beachy feel of your room.

  5. Hello! I think you did a fantastic job accessorizing to distract from the mauve fixtures! I really love how you hung the shelves and the picture all nestled in together with the accessories, nice job!!!

  6. Whst were they thinking when they put that wallpaper up? (I actually put something comparable up in my living room - what was I thinking?)
The walls look fantastic - can't wait to see what you do next - I would love to try to paint my cupboards but hubby says no. Great work! I'm going to follow you too so I can see what you're up to!
    Have a great week!

  7. Oh my! That's some mauve! Honestly though it looks 100% better because I'm distracted by your gorgeous wall color. Color can truly work wonders and you've proven it. I think I would try white distressing first on your cabinets then if it isn't quite right it's easy to go darker. Good luck and I can't wait to see the rest of your transformation!

  8. Pam, what an awesome makeover. Isn't it amazing what paint can do. You don't notice the mauve sinks as much now. It's truly a lovely room. I would do an off white distressing on the vanity. That would place the finishing touch on this inspirational project.

  11. What a great transformation. I agree that off-white distressed would be perfect with your beachy theme.

I have peach fixtures in our bath...so I can feel your pain!

  15. Great change! The colors you chose for the wall looks great with all the other stuff. Someone else did a post on how much difference knobs can make. I need to scrape wallpaper off & redo my bathroom. You did not make me want to start this project with your description of how long it took.

Glad you liked the my friends cute little trailer I posted about. Have a great week.

I love the color on your wall, the cool mocha just looks so yummy! (We used a similar color and love it.) I love the see-through picture too.
My IL's just recently put up wallpaper like your ex-wallpaper in their powder room!
I vote for white also, especially going with the beachy theme.
