This is one of my favorite bargains/transformation stories. I got this little home-made table and the 2 Pier One chairs from a sweet little lady for a grand total of $50! She had them in storage, packed in with a ton of other things that she needed to get rid of.
Sorry I don't have a before shot of the table, but it was stained a medium brown. It was definitely needing some love! She had decoupaged some ducks on the top - remember the ducks in the rain holding umbrellas thing? I loved the chairs just as they were - I couldn't believe it when I got them home and turned them over - Pier 1! They are very well-made - no wobbling!
All I did was sand it a little. Then I painted it blue - I think it was just some craft paint that I had. Next I just dry-brushed some white over it. Then a little more sanding on the edges...
I could have/should have put some sort of protective coat over it when I was done. I didn't want it to come out shiny, so I just didn't do anything. It has held up really well and I thought it wouldn't matter too much if it gets a little more wear and tear on it.
It doesn't "live" outside! I have it in our breakfast room/mud room area. I just couldn't get a decent photo in there, so I asked my "men" (hubby and son) to move it outside for me!

ReplyDeleteLove the little table... so cute and I love the color!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it fell from the sky and is made from clouds :) It's so sweet!
ReplyDeleteThat turned out cute! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteHow cool! I love the table. Exactly what is "dry brushing". I wonder if it's what I think it is.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job and the chairs were a super deal!
Nancy
Hi Nancy! I guess I meant that I didn't wet the brush first and I just sloppily brushed the white paint everywhere. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog!
What a cute little set, and what a bargain! Great job!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great table! I love the color too!

Fantastic! I love it. How I describe dry brushing is that I dip my chip brush in paint and have a folded paper towel handy and dab off all the excess paint...then I dry brush the remainder lightly over the surface. Viola, drybrushing. Your blog is a delight to visit.
ReplyDeleteLooks charming! I've just started adventuring into the world of re-painting & distressing furniture...haven't done any big pieces yet but getting ready to!
ReplyDeleteThis set looks great! Your paint technique turned out so pretty. laurie
ReplyDeleteHow in the world did you remove the offensive decoupaged duck? I would have thought that anything decoupaged wouldn't budge.
ReplyDeleteAre you planning to do anything with the chairs? They seem very sturdy, great score! I love making over things I've found at yard sales, etc.
Hi Karen! Lots of sanding and then paint! It took a few layers of sanding to get it smooth enough so you couldn't feel the decoupaged surface on the top!
ReplyDeleteI love the chairs as they are, they have a lot of worm holes in them. I think I'll leave them alone!
Thanks for visiting my blog!
